The Dallas Mavericks pulled off an incredible comeback against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night, overcoming an 18-point deficit in the third quarter to secure a 116-114 victory in overtime.
Cooper Flagg, the young phenom who turns 19 this Sunday, led the Mavericks with 23 points and 10 rebounds. His performance, along with Anthony Davis' 15-point contribution, helped the Mavericks turn things around after a shaky start.
But here's where it gets controversial...
Cade Cunningham, the Pistons' star player, recorded his third triple-double of the season with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. However, his 2-for-7 shooting in overtime left the Pistons short of a win.
And this is the part most people miss...
The Pistons played a large portion of the game without two of their starters. Ausar Thompson was ejected after a heated exchange with an official, and Duncan Robinson left the game early due to a knee injury.
Despite these setbacks, the Pistons dominated the Mavericks in second-chance points, outscoring them 30-15 with an impressive 25 offensive rebounds. However, their 3-point shooting let them down, with a season-low 18.2% success rate.
In other news, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd provided an update on the highly anticipated return of nine-time All-Star Kyrie Irving, who is still recovering from ACL surgery. Kidd stated, "In another month, we'll give you an update."
