India makes history by successfully chasing down a remarkable target to reach the Under-19 World Cup final.
In an exhilarating match, India scored 311 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets, thanks to outstanding performances from George who hit 115 runs, Sooryavanshi with 68 runs, and Mhatre contributing 62 runs. They faced Afghanistan's formidable score of 310 runs for 4 wickets, where Shinozada and Niazai both struck impressive centuries, with Shinozada scoring 110 and Niazai adding 101 runs. Ultimately, India clinched the victory by seven wickets, achieving this record chase with 53 balls remaining.
As the game commenced, India found themselves in a challenging position. Afghanistan's batting, led by the impressive centuries from Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai, had put them on a high pedestal with a total of 310 runs, a daunting task that no team had managed to overcome in the history of the Under-19 World Cup. But the Indian batting lineup rose to the occasion, executing their chase with remarkable skill and confidence.
George and Sooryavanshi capitalized on early chances, both having been dropped during their initial innings, leading to a rapid partnership of 90 runs for the first wicket off just 57 deliveries. India's breakthrough finally arrived in the 13th over when Deepesh Devendran dismissed Ahmadzai for 31 runs with a full-length ball that caught the inside edge and went to the wicketkeeper. Shinozada, coming off a stunning 163 against Ireland, started confidently, showcasing his batting skills by clipping Deepesh for boundaries twice in three balls. Afghanistan even benefited from five penalty runs when the ball slipped through wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu's legs and struck his helmet.
Afghanistan reached their 100 in the 22nd over, with Shinozada and Sadat forming a solid partnership that contributed 64 runs for the second wicket before Sadat gave away his wicket needlessly while attempting a big shot against offspinner Kanishk Chouhan.
Just when it appeared that Afghanistan was at risk of losing their momentum, Shinozada and Niazai steadied the ship, expertly managing the run rate. Shinozada was particularly inventive, employing reverse sweeps and scoops, reaching his fifty off 49 balls, while Niazai played steadily, accumulating runs without taking excessive risks.
